BLACK

Black, a label placed upon us to define our lives

Black, nothing more than a race used as a weapon

To capture the weak and dehumanize our strengths

Black, a stereotypical shame placed upon the heads

Of our young to hate themselves

Black is unintelligent, unhuman and ugly

Black is ghetto, loud and weary

Black is big assets, baby daddies and obese women

Black is a body used as a sex symbol to define our women

Black is the increasing number of criminal rates among our men

But no. Black is me. Black is him. Black is her.

Black is nothing more than radiant grace molded into elegance

Black is not a badge of shame but rather a symbol for strength

Black is not blond weaves but beautiful frizzy hair

Black is more than the label placed upon us

Black is more than stereotypes forced down our throats

Black is nothing more than my race

Black is not your definition of what I should be

Black is my strength, my talents and my achievements

Black is God’s grace upon our people, my people

Black matters. Black will strive. Black is overcoming.
