Birds

One peaceful morning, a sunshine to admire,

Just three little birds sitting on top of a wire.

One was blue and the others were red,

But they embraced each other as if they were the same.

Another red bird flies onto the wire,

As they chirped a tune to each other.

The birds start turning against one another,

Now the red ones hate blue and the blue one does too,

Now little blue bird flies away from the wire,

Away from the hate and into a forest.

It slowly settles down with tears in it’s eyes,

Thinking, ‘How could those red birds do this? I just couldn’t escape their lies.’

The blue bird spots something,

That something seems to be hiding.

That something said, ‘Please don’t hurt me, please let me be…’

The blue bird heads toward them and says ‘There's nothing to be afraid of, for I am just like you, wanting to be free,’

A small yellow robin comes out of the hiding place,

They asked, ‘Really?’ as they walked with grace.

The blue bird replied, ‘I came from a long way back in the city, before I came here to hide from some birds, who showed me no pity.’

The yellow robin smiled and said with a grin, ‘You really are just like me.’

So the two birds embraced the night sky, realising this is true reality.

Sometimes I think back and remember,

All those restless nights,

The months I’ve spent hiding,

That I’m quite like these birds as well,

Wanting to hide,

Wanting to ‘fly away’.
