ordering Chinese food on those Friday nights in front of the TV

the notes of support you would leave when I wasn't looking

how early we would wake up to do each other's hair

the hours we spend looking through CDs at the mall

and the Thanksgiving movie tradition we tried to start

I still see your bright blue eyes when I close mine

I remember your birthmark in the right one that never left sight

You were love

My first

My best friend forever

I hope our sober thoughts meet again

I write cards because of you

every envelope I seal I think of leaving behind for you

to tell you how I feel

with fear

with love

I hope your eyes still look the same

I hope you've kept up with the new trends

and me

so desperately wanting your love

but so aware of pain you left me with

when you didn't choose me

I found a new home

it's quite different

it's supportive and loving and mine

it reminds me each night of you

and how far I have come

and the love I have received

embracing me

the way a mother should

My family
