Beyond the Brink

You stand across the chasm

that divides us

You don’t see me

standing on my bank

as you enjoy the vista from yours

You don’t see me

waving my arms as I

try to get your attention

You don’t see anything

across the gulf

as you swing your feet, sitting on the edge

staring off at the distance

Content with the size of your world

but I’m here

I’m trying to throw a rope bridge over

to close the gap

to tie the two lands together

Please

don’t throw it back

Maybe once

the rope slaps the ground beside you

you’ll know I’m here

and that there is something

beyond the brink
