I'm not one to make excuses, but this is inexcusable! 10 months, $2000 in course fees and countless hours of coursework and tutoring and I end up with a barely passing grade but I guess that is better than my original failing grade, which I didn't even deserve in the first place...since none of my work was saved in the online program. Despite having notebooks filled with my work you dismissed me, you said "I'm sorry my dear, but I'll have to see you in class again next semester if you want to pass, but feel free to meet me for office hours!" I was so angry I wanted to hit you, but instead I refrained. I went home and to my dismay found out you're the only teacher that is qualified to "teach" the class. Your self-authored book makes no sense! You jump around from step to step without any explanation, it appears as if you wrote the book while you were a little tipsy on vacation. My classmates and I seriously thought about creating a petition about how your class was acting as a violation in our attempts to pursue a higher education, but then through the grapevine we found out, the Dean is your best friend and it was highly unlikely he would listen to a bunch of underclassmen. A lot of them withdrew from the class, I decided to sit it out, but the semester went by too fast for me to catch up. I even e-mailed the software company and although they apologized for the technical difficulties they could do nothing to help me! I was so frustrated, but I didn't let the failure defeat me, it motivated me to make a plan, to study and that I would become the best at this subject that I could. I spent my entire winter vacation not hanging out with friends, but every damn night studying your problems, rereading your explanations. Everyone was telling me to take a break, because I was literally going insane trying to understand your complicated book, with the formulas that made no sense. I was on the fence if I should retake the class or transfer out to a different school. I was filled with doubt, but I decided it would be cowardly to take the easiest way out.
So in January I registered and began taking your course again, only to find myself still struggling. I sent you an e-mail explaining my frustration, you sent me back a ridiculous response praising my dedication and your explanation that the concepts were not that hard to grasp I just needed to pay attention. Well sir, I paid attention, I went over your notes for countless hours, even though they were in English, I still struggled through. Even the tutors in the tutor center said your book problems needed more explanation. You just leave your students hanging. It's hard to pull yourself back up, with the chair's been kicked out beneath you, but I was determined to overcome this obstacle. Through practice and patience I began to see how to solve the problems, but by then the semester was half over again. I studied and studied like crazy and my grade improved. Thankfully I'll never have to take a class with you ever again. I warned other students on rate my professor to steer clear or at the very least expect to work their butts off studying all year, because it is impossible for anyone to pass on their first try...unless they meet you for "closed door office hours," but that is a complete other story I won't get into here. You know what I'm talking about...but I'll respect your privacy although students shouldn't have to take your D to get an A!! Another thing that is disgusting is how your overpriced books come plastic wrapped, nobody will buy them with a used access code, so there is $200 down the drain, but hey they made a beautiful picture when I threw in onto my first summer bonfire's flame.
All of this for a barely passing grade, but at least I still have my dignity and didn't have to lower myself to your unethical standards to get an A, that is all I have to say.
