Slam!
The sound of her falling to the ground echoes throughout the house

I stare, wondering if this is how one treats a spouse

Thud!

The sound of him slamming the door in her face

I glared at my father, sharing his last name with disgrace

Bang! Bang!

The sound of her banging on the door, asking him to let her in

What had she done to make him so angry? Did she commit a sin?

Years later she was asked why she stayed with him so long

the answer is simple, because I love him and to him I belong

he the sun and I the moon.

But as beautiful as the sun is, sometimes I forget that it, too, is destructive.

But it was not his fault,

the culprit was in his breath

a substance worse than money or greed

a foe more frightening than death

alcohol, a monster did breed.
