#BecauseILoveYou

If love screamed out every time
He stumbled in the doorway,
Or welled up in your eyes
Every time he cursed,
If love was dulled by bloodshot cries
If love was role-reversed,
If they tell me love is spit
That their tongues will fight while their teeth kick
Their fingers will slur, “I’m in love with you”
But a love that grips your gut should not rip it in two.

Love doesn’t notice when clock hands stop
Or when streetlights change to red
But love looks beyond the setting sun
That rests behind your forehead.
Love presses its palms against your back
Love caresses every line
Love stands us up on our feet
And washes clean our mind.

The thing about this greatest love
It lives and comes from us
And greater still is the little-known truth
In ourselves we can always trust.
