Because She Loved Me

"Because I Love You," my sister would always say to me.

Because she loved me, she never let me go

Because she loved me, she held my hand while we walked in crowds

Because she loved me, she didn't wipe away my tears

She taught me to wipe away my own

Because she loved, she let me win every time we played cards

Because she loved me, she taught me things no one else did

Because she loved me, when I told her I wanted to be like her, she grew angry

She wanted me to be better

Because she loved me, she respected me

Because she loved me, she taught me all about the game that boys played

Because she loved me, I learned to love myself

Because she loved me, I learned to love others, give of myself freely

Because she loved me, when she left

It felt as if I had just endured an amputation

Because she loved me, she showed me what love truly is

Love is kind and patient

Love is respectful, how can you truly show love to someone,

Without giving them respect as well?

Because she loved me, she gave me a love that will be unmatched

She built me up inside, made me learn more about myself

Because she loved me, she challenged me

Asked things of me that tested my strength and my knowledge

Because she loved me, I was able to know what love truly is
