Because I Love You

Tue, 11/07/2017 - 23:50 -- Jenpai

Because I love you, I keep secrets beside the ones you know.

Like how I’ve already named our three kids and two dogs, because I’d sound like a creep.

Or the nonsensical conversations we have when you talk in your sleep.

I don’t tell you that I can see the rest of my life in your eyes.

Or how I fall for you a bit harder every time you give me your French fries.

Because I love you, I am afraid to lose you.

I tell myself that I can’t lose something that does not belong to me.

That it is wrong to hold captive a soul that used to be free.

It’s the only reason for my jealousy, it’s not that I don’t trust you.

It’s just hard to comprehend how people don’t see you the way I do.

Because I love you, I’ll keep surprising you.

Whether it’s the second mint I picked up leaving the movies

Or how I just got my period and I’m just being moody.

I’ll get you ‘just because’ gifts

And I’ll plan spontaneous trips.

Because I love you, one day I might have to let you go.

No longer will I wake up to your sunshine kisses; warm and bright.

No longer will I have you to hold on cold nights.

They say expect the unexpected

But I never expected someone like you would complete my life.
