Because I Love You

I told him I was looking for some empathy,

But he fooled me

He said these words to make me feel “new”

“Because I love you”

I think it’s only fair

There’s going to be pain somewhere

Our love had gone askew

Because I “loved” you

But, I was tired of the charade

He said I should’ve stayed

But it was these words too,

“Because I love you”

I was hesitant at first,

I thought it would be the worst

But, you cared about my feelings

It was my heart you were stealing.

You gave me the best advice

With you, I could suffice

You told the truth,

With you I felt my youth,

And you gave my life some spice.

Now, we laugh in the rain,

For my joy, you are to blame

We talk the night away,

I knew you’d never stray.

You stood by me,

I stood by you.

It was truly meant to be,

Because I love you.
