A Beautiful Evening

We lay on a blanket,
Underneath the night sky,
Seeking the peace
Of the countryside.

It's so peaceful after it rains,
Who cares if it's a little wet?
I smell the damp earth beneath us
And the fresh air around us.

As we lay there,
We start to realize
All the little things
That usually pass us by.

We sit there and watch
Drops of newfallen rain
Cling to the leaves
Before getting lost
in the puddles below.

And the moon sinks behind
A cliff in the sky,
Betraying us a stunning sight

Then it peeks at us
From behind the cloud
Bathing us in its stolen light.

All the plants shimmering,
Reflecting the stars,
As I try to block the sounds
Of hurriedly passing cars.

We'd better get home soon,
Before the grass
Is covered in dew.
We walk home silently
Cherishing this night.
