Beat, Breathe, Beat

Location

As he lied, she continued to beat

Those watching could only sigh,

The ordeal consumed him, he could no longer eat

His body, his will, appeared to be weak,

They held their breaths, hardly daring to speak,

Deep in their hearts, they turned to the sky,

Deep inside, he continued to die,

Why oh why? Echoed the cry

Of family and friends that stood nearby,

Yet that old pumping heart, she continued to beat

How long had he been in that hospital bed?

Perhaps a few weeks,

Would the surgeon’s skill or God’s Will

Determine if his heart continued to beat?
