To Be Broken

To be broken inside

is like pieces of broken  glass.

Too many pieces to fix,

Impossible to put back together.

Not even the strongest glue can repair.

Brokeness is like water:

clear and transparent.

You can't see it.

You don't let it show.

You disguise it with a smile.

Maybe even a little laughter.

To the world they see

A big bright smile and shining eyes

But to yourself you see

An insecure person who's never enough.

Inside you continue to break.

Piece by piece. Lie by lie.

More shattering.

With every mean comment,

every put down and every self conscious thought.

It is like a vase dropping to the ground.
