To Be Alone

When I walk to school with headphones in

And sit in class daydreaming

And pet the cat I see on my walk home

I want to be alone

When I walk through fields thinking wandering thoughts

Or groan over homework at a ramshackle desk

And eat my tea in front of the tv

I want to be alone

When I'm reading until the small hours

And toss in my bed when I can't sleep

Or throw pillows out of stress and frustration

I want to be alone

Then...When I stare out the bus window on a chilly grey night

And I see some children on their scooters

And an eldely couple sat on a bench

And lovers holding hands in the wind

I realise, I like to be alone

But perhaps I don't want to be lonely
