To Be

I'd like to be like Selena,

red lips, confidence, heart of gold

But it's hard, since I'm shy

and I know that

I never could be quite as bold

I'd like to be like Diana

poised, and observant, and kind,

But I stumble, and slouch,

and I curse from my mouth,

and to feelings I'm practically blind.

I'd like to be like Viola

Strong, energetic, and fun,

But I have under-eye bags

And sometimes I get sad

And I cough up my lungs when I run.

Most of all, I think, I would like

to one day be pleased with myself

to see my reflection, talk, laugh, and walk

without wanting to be someone else.
