Battle Wounds

We are given a sword at birth,

so mighty we feel.

We don't know what it's for,

nor it's true power of steel.

After years of training,

it's come the day to fight.

No one wants to see us go,

hoping we won't see the light.

You hold your sword so closely,

never let it go astray.

Why do you carry this burden?

Please let it go away.

I watch you fight these battles,

And too soon your perfect skin is tarnished.

Please put your sword down,

I wish someone would take your harness.

Why do you fight these battles?

No one is aiming at you.

I have my armor on,

No need to protect me through and through.

But I watch you fight these battles,

and they seem unnecessary to me.

Please put down your sword,

I can't stand watching what I see.

Why do you fight these battles?

You never put down your sword.

You let all these things hurt you,

there is no reward.

So I watch you fight these battles,

you never let me help or try,

please put down your sword,

I can't stand to watch you die.

Why do you fight these battles?

You have your sword aimed at me,

I know that you are blinded,

but I wish that you could see.

Don't hold your sword so closely,

let it go astray.

Don't carry such a burden,

please just let it go away.
