The Battle of the Great Plains

I travel across the great plains

Adrenaline is surging through my veins

On a quest for the throne

A quest to be eternally known

Suddenly the foe appears just over the horizon

All know a great battle will take place under the Orion

All present charge upon one another

And again man fights man, and brother fights brother

Sword clashes against sword

Death of foe and ally goes ignored

Pools of blood cover the land

And yet neither side can gain the upper hand

Suddenly, fire lights up the sky

Lightning flashes up high

Metal clashes against metal as we all fight

If I end up burning tonight, might as well burn bright

Foes fall to the ground all around

Questions arise, do I really want or need the crown?

How can I rule when I have ended so much life?

How many of these men won't be alive and able to return to a wife?

What makes me good and them bad?

Is it because they are seemingly mad?

How am I any better than they?

All this senseless fighting make life so grey

The final foe's body falls to the floor

This marks the end of the first battle of a war

The fighing is over and done

The great battle had been won

Yet with a new revelation I turn my back on my dream

I no longer have any desire to reign supreme

But now I know I don't want or need glory

Not a single soul needs to know my story
