Autumn Optimism

I think of Autumn as a time of new beginnings

Petals fall from the flowers one by one

I guess you could say that crisp air rejuvenates my motivation

The trees are painted red as life drains from their leaves

Perhaps it is the opportunity of a new school year

Beaches close, swim suits are packed away, postponed vacation plans are tossed in the trash, never to be considered again

The fall harvest is upon us as every holiday signals bountiful selections…or perhaps, sugary loot from a moonless night

Even the rot of the ruby and sapphire berries are ashes

And the chill promises sleigh bells, joy, and the light of the world

The sun shines less each day as the world embraces darkness

Optimism is not naivety
Look through the eyes of a child burrowing into the forsaken splendor of the once-majestic emerald giants
We call it “playing in the leaves”
