Autumn Gold

Autumn gold

Covered the trees in late season,

Light glistening on the leaves

As hot cider is poured

Into mugs on the front porch.

Man I miss that hot cider.

Now, the royal leaves dance with

Their leaders in bark,

To and fro,

Following the wind

As it blows and blows

And he was down a gravel path.

At least I don’t have to rake all these dang leaves.

In the distance,

Witches cackle,

Bones rattle,

And rocking chairs creak as they move.

The sounds of autumn join in

With the dancing leaves around him.

This is the glory of the season,

And the leaves fall upon

Orange balls of wonder.

Pumpkins are only good for one thing. Smashing.

I am tired of all these charades.

I want something

More to life than all this!

A navy sweater clings to his skin

Catching the wind

As he wanders through the woods

Gazing at the glory

Of autumn’s last hurrah

Leaves crackling

Beneath his feet.
