Asterisk

I am so afraid for our nation.

I am so ashamed of our nation.

How did so many people vote

with their concentration

Only on what would benefit them the most?

Did they not realize the true power of their vote?

Did they not realize that making America great again

was never really part of his plan?

For him, his privilege trumps consent,

And his wealth trumps equality.

Every loop hole is a chance

to cheat the system,

a system he’s supposed to uphold.

Every debate is a chance

to beat anyone whose different,

the differences we were just beginning to celebrate.

The land of opportunity transformed

into the land of inequality

on inauguration day.

The White House once again

a symbol of race dominance,

instead of the hope

that it was filled with for the last 8 years.

A promoter of rape and hate

at the forefront of our nation

will wreak havoc in foreign policy,

while the homeland goes to anarchy.

Leaders of every other country

offended and harassed,

every other war will be upstaged

when World War III hits us in the toupee.

I already see the blood in the streets,

flowing without fuss,

like the blood of a people

who’ve grown accustomed to mistreatment.

I already hear the shots in the dark,

aimed at the dark, shots that always hit their mark;

lynching disguised as a stop and frisk.

Every step, every move is a risk

in a nation where everyone*

is equal.

*except for people of color, women, transgender people, immigrants, refugees, and anyone who does not match the physical characteristics and monetary status of our president.
