Into Ashes

Location

I was raised to be the sacrifice.
How fitting, with my name being,
"The One Who Bears The Cross."
But unlike my Namesake
I will not rise up again after three days;
Into ashes I will go, and into ashes I will stay.

When your body is aching I ache for you.
I touch you, and your pain comes to me,
As I feel it tenfold, where you feel nothing,
Just a pinprick on your little soul,
For this has always been my way:
Into ashes I will go, and into ashes I will stay.

When the monster aims his sword at you I will be slain,
I will grab the noose around your neck
And place it on my own, singing as I go out,
Because your life has more worth than mine.
As I die you know exactly what I will say:
"Into ashes I will go, and into ashes I will stay."

As they tie my body to the stake,
You sing incantations, covering me in gasoline
And preparing to light your fuse.
I take in the sharp scent around me,
As the fire on the match is lit by flame.
Into ashes I will go, and into ashes I will stay.

I was raised this way, mind you.
I was told that this was my fate, and I have accepted it.
But that doesn't mean that I will not fight
To reach this point by own terms.
I will write the final act of this play:
Into ashes I will go, and into ashes I will stay.

I was born to be the sacrifice
To a God I don't believe in, an angry God
That lights girls up and burns them to keep the peace.
My fate is mine alone, now. I will raise up the match in my hand
And drop it on the fuse, saving all of you from the one
Who persecuted you. I laugh as the flame shoots up.

I will watch over you to the end of days.
Into ashes I have gone, and into ashes I will stay.
