The Artist

They say nobody knows you

better than you know yourself

but I desperately need help unscrambling

this Rubik’s cube inside my mind

If someone could just link me to a tutorial

to solve it under 3 minutes

I would memorize algorithms

to transduce thoughts into wavelengths

compartmentalize beliefs into boxes

separate red yellow and blue

until there were no more

purples oranges and greens

until swirls of color constructed patterns,

places, memories

and I could pick up a brush

and paint them all

across my skin like graffiti

maybe then I could look in the mirror

and appreciate the art and the artist

simultaneously

After all,

they say the destruction of art

is art, too.
