The Art of Poetry

Wed, 07/11/2018 - 23:41 -- NIO23

For as long as written time,

Poetry was written throughout history.

Whether it was patterns of words and rhyme

With stories of happiness or misery

Poetry is an art, an expression.

Some are hard to tell.

Yet with each, some through description

They all enchant you in a spell.

Such as William Shakespeare with romanticized vision,

Or Edgar Allen Poe with his tales of woe,

Each taught us lessons with precision

With life issues that each poet show.

Take Maya Angelou for example

With her poem Still I Rise.

She taught me about confidence, being sensible.

Even if life ends in demise.

Or Henry David Thoreau’s poem,

I’m thankful that my life doth not deceive.

Who illustrated and informed the beauty of life amongst him

That shouldn’t be taken with disbelieve.

In all essence of each poet’s impression,

Who each taught us to evaluate ourselves.

That poetry is more than words of discretion.

It’s a way to reach within yourself.

This poem is about:
Me
Our world
