And You Did

“Follow me, my child” you said with a smile in your kind, wise eyes

“Let me show you how to heal”

And you did

“Follow me, my child” you said with a gentle outstretched hand

“Let me show you how to forgive”

And you did

“Follow me, my child” you said with tenderness in your gruff voice

“Let me show you how to laugh your way through the worst storm”

And you did

“Follow me, my dear child” You said, already pointing the way

“Let me show you how to be okay again”

And you did

“Follow me, my precious Lela” You said as your skin began to grow pale

“Let me show you how to love”

And you did

“Follow me, precious Mystery” You said with a mischievous grin as your pace began to slow

“Let me show you how to see the beauty in everything”

And you did

“Follow me, precious granddaughter” You said as the tumors grew

“Let me show you how to live”

And you did

“Come with me, my dear” You said as the life began to fade from your eyes

“Let’s dance in the rain”

And dance we did

And here I am, still dancing, waiting for you to join me again

On that old picnic table in the mountains
