And The Bass Beats

I take the stage

And my palms are sweating

The bass begins to beat

The light illuminates my skin

As a young girl

I ate bananas

to calm my nerves

Now I think it was all a trick

A chord emanates through me

And my body begins to move

Fingers dutifully performing

What my mind can't seem to

Sometimes I think I'm ready

To leave this all behind

Leave the world that has

Treated me so unkind

And the bass drum beats

I'm sweating from the unrelenting heat

Of stage lights filling my vision

My head bangs out all the sour tastes

Of long nights and drunken decisions

I'm sorry that I left you in that place

You don't make my head spin anymore

Everyday I talk to you feels like a chore

You don't make my heart soar

Lately it's just been feeling sore

Darling, I didn't know my bones could ache until I met you

Beat

Beat

And I feel like I'm missing a limb

Beat

But

There's so much ahead of me

A whole world yet to see

And the drum beats on

It overpowers me, so I pump on

Like a tsunami

The bass echoes through my bones

And as the crowd writhes

Ba dum

Ba dum

That bass

Begins

To feel

A lot less

Like a rhythm

And a little

More like

My heart

Beat.
