America the Unfair

(inspired by "America the Beautiful". Some lyrics used)

O beautiful America:

your amber waves of grain

and purple mountain majesties

have turned to gray.

You crowned thy good with brotherhood,

but it has been crushed to bits

under the weight of prejudice.

The calls of the many

fall on the shields of deaf ears.

Thy liberty rest in the law,

but its meaning false and intentions corrupted.

We march in liberating strife at the base of your hill,

but you use your laws to lock us out.

We are the base of this country,

who more than self their country loved,

but the people who fought away from home, praise them all -

but those who fight on the homefront,

arrest them, detain them, deny them their freedoms.

For slaves become free to remain shackled to the system instead.

For women can vote to be denied their opinion.

For immigrants flee to the land of the free only to be locked out at the front door.

Gazes turned to capital hill,

eyes now dimmed by human tears.

What have we done throughout the years

to deserve the fate you sign into bills each and every year?

Your selfish gain has begun to stain

the banner of freedom we all desire.

O beautiful for patriot dream

that sees beyond the years.

Does our future look better than this age of discrimination?

Or will we remain immortalized in this horrid age

like thine alabaster cities

or halcyon skies?

My country
