America, Falling

Tue, 04/16/2013 - 18:19 -- kligh27

The stars of 50 states reflected in the sky
The eyes of American people filled with tears to cry
Oh Nation of the Free! Oh Home of the Brave!
Your shining gleam of hope has now begun to fade

Twins stood tall throughout the elements
Only when they did fall was the silence indefinite
September rains replicated what was in the soul
A Nation wounded deeply; the story forever told

Forward then many a year and zoom in on a hook
Who did see the hurt in the eyes that read a children's book?
Silently and swiftly they grew up broken still
Until the lives of others were taken at one's will

Ashes upon ashes! Flames that lick the flag
America, my love, what has become your past?
A story once of freedom,of overcoming the bar
Now dwindles in the shadows of the citizen's heart

This poem has touched my heart, it speaks entirely what most people don't see. America has been an emblem of freedom and hope, but that is now not the case. I hope many people will see these kinds of poems and the truth that lies in them so we can restore America's spirit. I love your poem and appriciate it's words. Thanks for writing it.
