Ambition

For every time in my life

That I have been

Knocked down

Called out

Rejected

Made fun of

Hurt

Hurt

Hurt

I’d feel the burn of my ego

And the sting of my flesh

Swearing

Begging

Me to give up

But then my fire rises

Bursting out of the darkness within me

Forcing me to act out

To knock it off

Dust the shoulders

And move on

I survived the dark times

Because that ambition

To do better tomorrow

To make a difference in my world

To be a better me

So if anything

These dark times have taught me

At the core of me

There is ambition
