Always Behind a Curtain

Location

On lights.

Off lights.

Red lights.
Blue lights.
Lights are beautiful.
Sometimes bountiful,
Sometimes few.
I can make them red,
And I can make them blue.
The world may be a stage,
But the theater is my home,
There we can make people age,
Or young like this poem.
Backstage, with lighting or sound,
Is where I can always be found.
I make actors look and sound their best,
And they take care of the rest.
With the lights turned down and a call of "Go",
We begin to start the show.
I use my script and call the cues,
The actors are lit with pinks and blues.
From first rehearsal to final bow,
With each rehearsal I slowly learn how,
How to make a show stand on its own two legs,
How to make actors dance and juggle with eggs,
To learn to perform is always a challenge
But learning backstage is triple the pain,
But with every pain there is always a gain,
And a beautiful show is worth every ache.
Behind a curtain I may hide,
But it's behind that curtain I am truly me.
