Alone Together

Then came the time of the novel plague.

It was no pox, no fever, no ague.

No, this one was new

(It's called SARS-CoV-2),

Though we've seen its like before,

And its like was not of yore.

The world was not prepared,

The people not well fared,

Against the terror of COVID-19.

And the children were shaking in the knees.

Across the globe, the disease reaped death

With every touch of its foul breath.

But the day came when the people put up a fight,

When they decided they'd have enough of their plight,

When they agreed to be bold, to be brave

So that their posterity they might save.

Thus, the people kept a wide berth between each other.

It was hard, but by being alone, they stood together.

And the dreaded disease died away.

Never seen again to this very day.
