Alone, In A Room Full of People

Location

I sit, thinking quietly to myself
People mill about, chatting and laughing
No one approaches
No one even notices I'm here

Alone
In a room full of people
Surrounded, yet isolated
From the world I so desperately want to be a part of

I've never fit in,
Always the odd one out
I felt like nothing I did was ever good enough,
While it seemed to come so easily for everyone else

Alone
In a room full of people
Surrounded, yet isolated
From the people who never gave me a chance

"Oh well, they're missing out", I tell myself
They'll never get to know the real me
One day I'll have made something of myself and they'll be trying to make up for lost time
Once that time has passed, it's gone forever

You can't turn back the hands of time,
So choose your words and actions carefully
You never know how they will affect someone else
Not everyone is as strong as they appear to be on the surface

So say hello to the shy girl sitting by herself
She's not stuck up or bitchy,
She's just too afraid of rejection to put herself out there
You never know when you might find yourself;
Alone,
In a room full of people
