Alone

The hustle and bustle of the city

Fills you ears, eyes and nose.

You see the chains of cars inching forward

Slowly – one at a time.

You smell the putrid odor of sewage

Overcome by the perfume of new clothes.

You hear the chatter of people all around you

And yet you are alone.

You smile and wave to people who shout your name

But they don’t stop…

Just continue on, in their clusters of three and four

And leave you all alone.

They call you their friend…

They laugh with you and eat with you

But when you reach out for support, comfort –

Real friendship

They turn their heads so that can’t see you

And you realize

You are always –

alone.
