All It Would Take Is a Kind Word (Suicide/Self-Harm Awareness)

Location

They walk on her like a doormat,

laughing and calling her names.

It used to her her so much , but

now she's used to the pain.

She wants to feel something, and

for someone to hear her when she cries.

But her dad is gone, her mom drinks,

and her older brother just lies.

All it would take is a kind word,

for someone to show that they care.

Instead all she gets is pity, and

adults claiming, "Life's not fair."

She desires to feel something,

to prove that she's not dead.

And as she slides the blade on her skin,

the pure white of the sink turns red.

She thinks, as the red swirls down the drain,

"There is something healing in the pain.

All it would take is a kind word, or

For someone to notice her wrists.

But nobody notices or nobody cares,

And so the cutting persists.

She needs to feel something, and

for someone to tell her they love her.

But her bestfriend moved, her boyfriend left,

she thinks she's alone, that's for sure.

These kids that tease her would cry

at her funeral and pretend to be sad.

And maybe, just maybe, they

would start to feel bad.

All it would take is a kind word,

for somebody to speak out.

But nobody tells anybody,

and her self-value, she begins to doubt.

She starts to feel something,and

when others begin to care,

she finds the true meaning of healing,

and helps to make others aware.

All it would take is a kind word,

to pull someone out of the dark.

You could save a life.

You could start a fire from a spark.

She is the girl right beside

you in the hallway.

She's the shyest one in your class.

She is the lost soul that is drowning,

and people my pause by her,

but they usually just pass.

All it would take is a kind word,

so tell her you can't go away

until you tell her that you are

glad she decided to stay.

Others would start to feel something,

and begin to spread the word:

"Suicide is NOT the answer!"

TOGETHER WE WILL BE HEARD!
