Adventure Awaits

Bought some books today

And I like to get lost in their pages,

Their pages made of paper;

Except this paper isn't green.

It can't pay my bills or buy food to fill me up.

It can't sway the minds of the people on top.

Money talks for those folks,

As they lean back and take it easy.

And my mouth is zipped shut unless I can roll out the dough,

But books are my companions,

With their pages made of paper.

Break away from the world with a simple word.

Travel far with those words,

become something shiny and new with their letters.

Find joy and sadness, anger and enchantment.

When numbers dot the line and the dollar sign waves,

I find myself in a magical land,

Where houses move and flowers whisper.

The travelers I follow carry me with them.

I gladly accept the escape,

Happy to see what adventure awaits.

It is extraordinary.

It is awesome.
