Address this letter

Address this letter to the pieces of myself I left in Pennsylvania.

The broken shards of the boy I used to be

The return address to where I learned that fear was a four letter word I would carry with me always.

You see we spend our lives shattering again and again, in every place we will ever love.

Hoping that one day we find the instructions to put ourselves back together again.

As if Humpty Dumpty was the most relatable fairytale I will ever read.

They say that time is like an hourglass, always seeping through space til the sand has run out, but you cannot flip it back over again.

Time is like a broken bottle, wine seeping through the cracks til the bottle has dried out. And you cannot flip it over again.

You cannot regain what has been lost,

You cannot suture some scars,

And time cannot heal all.

But you can cherish the moments

You can put your lips to the bottle

Taste the sweet bitterness of the wine

Quench the thirst on your tongue

Reminders of the desert

The sand in your hair

Do not be afraid to cut your lips on the broken glass of the bottle

Life isn’t meant to be painless

But when life is passing you by

Do not be afraid to drink

Don’t you know you can die of thirst?

This poem is about:
My country
Our world

Thank you so much!! 🥰

Ladywarrior16

this poem is so inspiring, I found myself drawn to it at the first sentence and in your words I was swimming, finding my way deeper and deeper until I reached the end and yet I wish I could keep swimming in your words, I find myself wanting to swim deeper into the ocean of words you've layed before the world. I hope to get to swim again in the stories you tell with your poem.
