Addiction

Dear Addiction,

Time was flying, fleeting as we embraced

Your eyes, capturing me, holding me fast

Unbeknownst to me, toward ruin we raced

My heart betraying the days of the past

And as I gazed into your lustful eyes

They, like mirrors, revealed my reflection

I saw a man broken, engrossed in lies

Wandering alone, without direction

So from your cruel grip I seperated

From your alluring distortion I fled

Running, I found the road long awaited

Only then did I feel my wounds that bled

Your hold had left me crippled and scarred

Leaving the course ahead heavy and hard

Sincerely,

The Wounded Jacob Aupperlee
