About A Boy

Why is it that so much time is devoted to one’s feelings?
Love and dreams and wimpy crap like that are only a fantasy…
But it is the HUMAN thing to do, I suppose…

There’s a boy I knew who was the biggest fool for love:
When he falls, he falls fast because he’s quick to trust his feelings.
It happens a lot, now that we’re on the subject.
And the more ironic part is that he has never been loved, in love, or the likes.
Yet he still wakes up every morning hoping, praying, and waiting…

It’s not like the boy doesn’t deserve to be loved.
Having survived a fucked up childhood, it’s the only thing he has to look forward to.
It’s a sad truth…
He was a young lad when his parents first divorced around that so-called joyous season...
Neither parent wanted him and the big fight in court was who was going to be stuck with him because they didn’t want him
The judge didn’t know what to do and just gave custody to the boy’s grandparents
They’d have denied it too, but were bribed with money from the state just to keep him under their roof.
St. Valentine’s Day wasn’t the greatest either.
He wrote a poem because he lacked the money to buy an actual card or chocolates
He gave it to his crush, his valentine to be only to have it ripped up right in his face
“You cheap shit!” she screamed, kneeing him in the balls and spitting on him before she stormed off
That same day a couple of other boys caught him in the hallway and beat the hell out of him just for trying to do a nice thing.
Battered and bruised, tears stinging his eyes as they streamed down his face, he vowed that one day he’d be happy.
After all, it was only fifth grade.

Fast-forward a few years to the middle of seventh grade
Seventh grade was such a hard time for him
Like a lot of boys, he began to question his sexuality
These things just happen out of the blue.
He met a boy in the same boat and they became close friends, but were never able to share how they had so much in common.
Prentise waited for things to happen, not wanting to rush things and didn’t want to jinx what could happen
The other boy felt sick and disgusted that he resorted to such a life and hated everything about himself
It was just too much for one so young to deal with on his own, because he thought he was all alone
He called up his friend one day and said “Prentise, I’ve got something to show you”
When Prentise came over to visit, he walked in just in time to see the gun in little Brady’s mouth and the gun rang out, painting the wall in what used to be a tortured, beautiful mind.
Poor little Prentise could only stare in horror, distraught, confused.
He called the cops, nonetheless, and they came and escorted him out of the house, in a blanket, trying to calm him.
He was too shocked and scared all at once to realize that he had been screaming and crying Brady’s name
Brady was no more, his family went away and little Prentise went to counseling.

When Prentise was in tenth grade, he tried to give it one more shot.
He met Davey who seemed to have the hotts for him. He just knew that a relationship was in the works
A whole month went by and Davey and Prentise got a little closer. Davey asked Prentise to be his boyfriend.
Speechless, Prentise could only shake his head “yes”. It was the first time Prentise has ever really been happy.
The whole school knew about Davey and Prentise. They chose to take it out on Prentise for so-called forcefully converting Davey because everybody liked Davey.
Prentise got beat up day in and day out and most times Davey was nowhere to be found. But it didn’t bother Prentise because no matter how bruised and battered he was, he still had Davey.
Prentise decided to drop by Davey’s out of the blue. He normally called and Davey would give the ok to come over.
Today, he thought that he would surprise the man of his dreams.
Davey, Prentise discovered, left the door unlocked, as if he were expecting Prentise to drop by.
Prentise slowly entered, his heart beating fast, butterflies in his stomach.
The house was empty and all Prentise could hear was romantic music
Prentise snuck up to Davey’s room and peered in just in time to see Davey mount another guy.
Prentise, his heart literally at a stop turned and ran away, ran out of the house and just kept running, nonstop. He just ran and ran.

Two years passed and no one knew where Prentise was. There was a reward for any information on his whereabouts
Oddly enough, Davey felt guilty about Prentise being gone because he saw him that day two years ago. He was the only one who was nice enough to report him missing.
Graduation had come and no one knew what had happened to Prentise. As a matter of fact, some believed that it was all some contrived story just to shame Davey, the all-American Guy.
Davey graduated and still, there was no information about Prentiss’s whereabouts.
Davey, now intimate with Patrick, constructed a monument about the boy no one really cared about.
It was like a gravesite that he’d often visit to cry and apologize for abandoning someone who loved him
Then one day, Davey found Prentise staring at his own grave-marker. Davey ran toward him and when he got closer, Prentise had vanished.
Only then did Davey know that Prentise had moved on.
A week later, a body was discovered at the bottom of the ocean, just deep enough for a poor scuba diver to see who was doing some underwater training.
Poor little Prentise, completely preserved, was pulled from the water and taken to the morgue
When officials came to identify the body, it was gone.
