A dictionary of over 7 billion names

We are all one

Important enough to be recognized

But not enough to be noticed

Nobody takes the time to get to know anyone…

It is too much reading

Takes too much time

I am 17 years old

I don’t even know myself

I have not taken the time to read

So here it goes

I am my infatuations

                  Kittens and their furry mane

                       Clothing and the endless shopping

Cities and their lights leading to the sign of life in every window

Heavy blankets and the deep comfort and warmth they show my body

Lastly the love I feel being embraced in his ever so tightening arms

I am what I hate

Spiders and the eight legs I feel strangling me when I leave a dark room

People who treat me as if I am no more than a crack in the sidewalk they walk on

Those who are absorbed in nothing but themselves

I am all the places I’ve ever been

My house with its detailed vintage accents

School and all the gossip behind other’s backs

The dance studio and expression every movement shows

New York City and the hope of someday becoming something bigger

I am how I feel, all I’ve felt

Stressed because I always take on more than my size 8 ½ feet will carry

Brokenhearted the time he tore my heart out of its sheltered cage

Loved in the moment he ran back and I’d realized he had never left

I am my past

They say your past does not define you,

Do we honestly believe that?

Our past has shaped us into the human being we are today

Yet, we try to ignore the fact it was ever there?

If you were to take the time to get to know me,

To read my definition

That is what you’d find

At least, that’s what I’ve found… so far

This poem is about:
Me
