In 10 Years

In 10 years that big math test won’t matter. That B that you got on the final won’t affect you. The endless hours of homework and studying and sometimes even crying will no longer feel like the end of the world.

In 10 years your acne will be gone. Family members won’t constantly ask you “So what are you doing to fix your skin?” You will no longer worry about going to school and always going to the bathroom to check on that pimple. You won’t have to change your outfit before leaving the house because your shoulders and back look like a connect-a-dot. You’ll learn not to hide your skin under a blanket of insecurity

In 10 years you’ll learn to love your body. You will no longer wear t-shirts, you will learn to embrace your body and wear whatever you want. Tank tops, shorts, dresses and even those crop tops you loved in high school but never had the confidence to wear.

Just keep in mind that in 10 years not one of these things will matter.

I love poetry but when it comes to writing it, I am pretty rusty. This poem was very personal to me and I really enjoyed the outcome.
