Once I was Her, Now I am Me

You said I wouldn't last. You told me I didn't understand.

You appeared to hate me. I was honestly scared.

You made judgements about me based on all the others who said they wanted to "help."

Little do you know, I was once like you.

Driven crazy by the anxious, intrusive thoughts,

I felt hopeless and defeated. Misunderstood at best.

The lonliness consumed me and there was no escape.

Years passed and I learned the skills I needed.

It wasn't an easy road, but I'm still standing, right?

I overcame what pulled me down and I know that she can too.

Who knew my past self, in the form of a little girl glaring at me,

would be the answer to all my questions.

--my motivation--my inspiration.

The reason for why I do what I do.
