Black & White
Black and White
Fall arrived at last, and summer bade goodbye-
the warmer songs abandoned me and I felt empty all inside.
The crisp cold air of autumn left warm colors in the air;
I walked along and breathed in bright sounds hidden everywhere.
The colors danced above my head,
Insecurity left and my shells were shed-
The sound stretched out for miles long
and this is how I became a song.
The song I am was simple, strong and had a lot to say
all about the way we view the world from day to day.
Some may preach the world is black and others swear it’s white
While I say, neither black or white- but instead, a colorful sight!
Nonsense, roared the others, how can colors still exist?
If we don't see them, they aren't there. You’re lying, we insist!
Their reds rose up in anger and my purple sank in shame
How can my world be wrong? Do I take the blame?
Neither side is right nor wrong- that isn’t the ordeal.
The problem is that my world isn't one that you can feel.
How dare declare me wrong when you cannot walk in my shoes?
The path towards openmindedness is a choice we all must choose.
We don't see eye to eye, and I
Won't deny whatever you say
The world is more than black and white-
Things are never only one way.
