Redefining The Self

Poetry is its own person

It doesn't fit into the "norms" of writing

It's flexible, bendable, shapeable

It's ready to mold itself into what it wants to be

It's from poetry that I learned that I don't have to fit social norms

Poetry can have it's own shape and rhythym

Because poetry is what it wants to be

and like poetry, I should be who want to be

Poetry taught me that I can have my own shape and rhythym too

and that I don't have to compare myself

Like poetry, I should be who want to be

and for once in my life -- I want to be me

Poetry taught me not to compare myself to others

I am flexible, bendable, and shapeable

and I want to be nobody else but me

for I am own person
