Hidden in Cruelty

Dog, why are you so happy?

Do you not see the world around you?

Black and white

Yet there, horrid and true

Humans curse, yell, scream

You walk undeterred

Happy with simple life

Breathing

You run and eat

Smile and kiss

What makes you so content?

How can you live happily?

Winds knock at your door

Still you live

Thunder crashes in darkness

Still you breathe

What makes you strong?

Is it because you cannot understand

This world so cruelly constructed around you

That you live without sorrow?

The world throws flaming arrows

Yet you chase after them

Playing fetch with troubles,

Content

Your smile warms my heart

But does not change the reality surrounding me

Darkness capturing my soul

Leaving me desolate and dreary

Kiss me, wake me from thoughts unbidden

Lead me to the forest

Bounding with life

Dew clinging to leaves, beauty hidden

Perhaps you are right

The world is not black and white

With the sun twirling around us

We live on knowing life is beauty

Hidden and unseen

To eyes covered with ignorance

Unleash your chains

Look out to the world before humans

Forest, animals, lush and living

A scene far away

Lost in the cruelty around us,

A life for a smiling dog
