This year I found happiness

Filled between the 365 days
Every beautiful moment melting away into a haze
At only 17 years of age
I found happiness, this year

Years before I was young and naive
Scared of what the world had in store for me
I watched as my mother would cry
my father scared to look me in the eye
I was searching for happiness, past years.

Little girl, grown
I wanted to enter the world made of stone
Unbreakable and passionate
This world would be my own
I made my mark, this year.

This year I found happiness.

In the passion of young love
The crippling pain of heartbreak
The breathtaking beauty of nature’s simple wonders
The collision with disappointment
I found happiness.

This year I realized that I bring happiness
I must seek the world’s beauty
I must find myself when left alone
I must accept all the love around me
I must see my flaws and push to improve
This year I found happiness within myself

This year I met people I would never forget
Children as brave as they come
While they are battling the odds,
They still wear smiles that could please the gods
This year I found happiness within them

No day, nor hour, is promised
The way you accept your past
Is how you'll make your future
The way you get somewhere
Is by fighting for your path
The way you find happiness
Is by expressing it to yourself and those around you
This year I found happiness.
