Snow White’s Ever After

It’s been a while now.
Your horns of fire and blood
Are just as red
As my swollen lips.
My skin of ice and snow
Are just as white
As the teeth in your smile.

We’ve been getting along just fine.
But there is something that still gnaws at my skin,
And I don’t think
This is the work of any insect or worm
That I’ve known before.
They only appear in the day, after all;
This decay spreads
As I fall asleep to you.

The browning of my core
Is just waiting to explode
In its color.
I wonder if it’ll ever taste the same again.
What it’s like to be fresh, ripe,
 And ready for harvest --
I fail to remember.

In any case,
It is hard to keep this stench away
After a fruit has been poisoned
By a witch like you.
