The Spirit of a Dog

Your wagging tail mirrors the trees gently swaying in the wind.

Your gleaming eyes mirror the sunshine in mid-July, my smile as I see you after a long hard day.

When your paws sprint across the fields of glory, I can see

the raw,

pure,

firey,

canine,

that ripples through your blood.

As you stare up at me when you hear your name, I can see

the loyal,

protective,

gentle,

spirit that has come through years of us together.

Different humans, different dogs, but I see all of us in your eyes. In you.
