Coming Home
Location
She sits with her baby...
Thinking that maybe...
He'll pick up the phone...
And say he's coming home...
See his baby and smile...
Saying that it's going to be a while...
Until he gets the father thing right...
Now that he's home from the fight...
That he'll hold her for the first time...
And realize that everything will be fine...
Please, just come home...
Come home...
She looks at her ring...
Then at the only thing...
That gives her hope...
A way to cope...
She looks at her baby with eyes...
That are like the great blue skies...
They are her fathers eyes...
Innocent with no lies...
He is at war...
Fighting along the shore...
She's hoping he'll come home...
That she'll hear it on the phone...
Weeks turn into months...
Then months to a year...
There's a knock on the door...
A heavy pour...
Rain...
Washing away the strain...
The door cracks and creaks...
She hasn't been out in weeks...
Then standing there is her soldier...
Who looks a little older...
She cries and holds him tight...
He asks if he can stay the night...
Or forever...
Forever...
Then he meets that newborn...
And finally says...
Hello...
Hello.
